A Journey of Learning and Growth

Sandy’s journey in construction began with an unexpected twist. Starting as a Project Manager/Estimator for a residential electric contractor, she faced a steep learning curve, initially knowing little about the industry. Her determination and tenacity led her through the intricacies of home electrical estimating, marking her entry into the world of construction.

 

Building on her early experience, Sandy joined a local developer as a Site Manager, where she learned the construction process from the ground up. From holes in the ground to handing over keys to new homeowners, Sandy played a pivotal role in every stage of townhouse construction. Her responsibilities included scheduling trades and suppliers, demanding rapid learning and adaptability.

 

In 2014, Sandy secured the position of Construction Manager for a housing development at Tower Ranch in Kelowna. Over two years, she oversaw the construction of 28 homes, showcasing her leadership and project management skills.

 

Entrepreneurial Spirit

In 2017, following company restructuring, Sandy decided to embark on her entrepreneurial journey and founded Sandmor Construction Ltd. While establishing her own business, she collaborated with local builders as a Project Manager, further enriching her construction knowledge and skills.

 

Advocating for Diversity and Inclusivity

Sandy’s commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity in construction is exemplified through her involvement with the Canadian Home Builders Association Central Okanagan (CHBACO). She served on the CHBACO Board of Directors from 2020 to 2022 and founded the Women In Construction Committee. This committee’s mission is to empower and guide young girls and women into the construction industry through education and bursaries. Sandy chaired this committee for two years and continues to be an active member.
